Spiritual Preparation

A few years ago, I came across the Lenten devotional below. As we enter Lent this coming Wednesday, a 40-day period of spiritual preparation for Easter, the church has historically called its members to self reflection, prayer and fasting. Fasting is not only refraining from physical food, but eliminating practices that will in turn, bring us closer to God. I hope these words will inspire your Lenten discipline:

FAST from judging others;
FEAST on Christ dwelling in them.
FAST from fear of illness;
FEAST on the healing power of God.
FAST from words that pollute;
FEAST on speech that purifies.
FAST from discontent;
FEAST on gratitude.
FAST from anger
FEAST on patience.
FAST from pessimism;
FEAST on optimism.
FAST from negatives
FEAST on alternatives.
FAST from self-concern
FEAST on compassion.
FAST from gossip;
FEAST on purposeful silence.
FAST from problems that overwhelm;
FEAST on prayer that sustains.
FAST from worry;
FEAST on faith.

Have a blessed Lent,
Pastor Lane
