Outreach and Missions

Calvary Moravian Church is committed to living out the great commission of Jesus Christ, attempting to share the good news of God’s redeeming love through various mission ministries, including:

Mission Partnerships

The Forsyth County Jail and Prison Ministry - Through the auspices of the Board of Evangelism and Home Missions of the Moravian Church, Southern Province, Calvary Moravian is a partner congregation in support of the Rev. Robert Wolfe, a Moravian Chaplain with the Forsyth County Jail and Prison Ministry.

The Street School of Winston-Salem currently meets in our Fellowship Center behind our central building. A national organization, Christian in orientation and founded in l996, Street Schools are found all over the nation and are organized locally for the benefit and education of at-risk adolescents who have not been able to make it in traditional school settings. Currently the Rev. David Morgan along with a Board of Directors administrates the Street School branch using our facility. For more information on this national organization, see www.streetschools.com.

Outreach Efforts

Bag Lunch Ministry

In an effort to share the love of God with those who are in need and hungry, Calvary’s Senior Friends work with the church office in making bag lunches for the hungry of our community. Lunches are available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. Funds to support this ministry come through “Food for the Hungry” offerings received on the first Sunday of every month.

Neighborhood Picnic

In an effort to reach out to the Holly Avenue neighborhood, the Missions and Evangelism Committee sponsors an annual neighborhood cookout on the Saturday evening nearest July 4th. Flyers announcing the event are distributed in the neighborhood and an invitation is extended to Friendship House, The Prodigals Community and various other organizations in our immediate neighborhood. Entertainment is provided following the picnic.

Saturday Night Fellowship

After the close of the Downtown Churches in Ministry in 2002, Calvary caught the vision of working closely with other congregations in the city to continue sponsoring Saturday Night Fellowship for senior adults living in our community.

This ministry involves a supper and program for seniors on the first Saturday night of each month at 5:00 p.m. Calvary provides the facility, meal and program and other churches in the community assist in this ministry by providing transportation for seniors so they can attend the Saturday night program. This ministry has been a real blessing for our congregation and has promoted ecumenical cooperation between the various churches of our city.

Winston-Salem Churches in Ministry

The Winston-Salem Churches in Ministry, a consortium of city churches representing a variety of denominations, which partners together to provide resources to children and older adults in our community is generously supported by the Calvary congregation. This support is given concrete expression through annual donations as well as support for the Saturday Night Fellowship dinners for older adults and the annual Summerfest and Big Chill, a fundraising event held each July in Grace Court Park.

Sharing our Resources

Calvary also allows community agencies and groups to use the Church building and Fellowship Center without charge. We see this as one way we can involve ourselves in the life of the community surrounding us.

Through volunteerism and other donations of money and resources, Calvary participates in the following ministries of our community:

Sunnyside Ministry of the Moravian Church
Cornerstone Ministry of the Moravian Church to Build New Churches
King Outreach
Crisis Control
The Trinity Center Client Assistance Fund
Winston-Salem Churches in Ministry
Hospital volunteers
Hospice of Forsyth County
The Prodigals Community
The Shepherd’s Center
